Constantly Feeling Tired? 5 Possible Causes

We all have those days where we feel super tired and yet we can't pinpoint an exact reason for it. So, we've gathered a list from experts of some of the most common causes of fatigue, other than not getting enough sleep.

 

What Could Cause Tiredness?

 

Dehydration

When the body does not have adequate amounts of fluids, your blood pressure drops which slows down the delivery of oxygen to the brain. This in turn, can cause one to feel tired. What are some signs that you need to drink more H20?
  • If you still feel tired after getting a good eight hours of sleep.
  • If you are not using the restroom at least three time a day.
  • If you are not drinking at least six to eight glasses of liquids - such as water, tea, and coffee - a day.


Thyroid

You may have hypothyroidism - meaning that your thyroid is not properly producing the hormones that help control your sleepiness and hunger. If you are getting enough amounts of sleep a night but still feeling sluggish, you should check with your doctor.


Cut Back Alcohol

For many, drinking some alcohol to wind down after a busy & stressful day at work is the way to go. However, although alcohol does help you feel relaxed initially and may help you fall asleep, it can actually effect the quality of your sleep. Alcohol contains a chemical that disrupts the sleep cycle, preventing you from entering deep sleep. So even if you sleep the full eight hours, you may not feel fully rested which can lead to feeling sleepy the next day.


Limit Your Naps

Although naps can be good to help you feel less sleepy during the latter part of the work day, it's good to set a time limit on how long your naps are. Research shows that naps are best when they are between 15-30 minutes. However, any longer than that and then you'll end up in REM cycle and if you wake up in the middle of it, you can feel even more sluggish and groggy.


Vitamin or Mineral Deficiency

Always make sure that you're eating a balanced diet. If you're cutting one big food group out of your daily diet, make sure that you are taking the right vitamins and minerals to make up for what your body is lacking.
