To a Better You - Actions for Everyday Self-Care

Take a journey to empowerment and self-recovery. There is no better decision than to put your health and wellness at your top priority. Our body and mind’s health are the most important thing to invest and take care of. Your life is your voice. Engage and implement self-care to your daily routine so you can boost your well-being not only for today but throughout your life.

No matter how busy our life gets, spend time and energy on helping ourselves feel better because no one else will. Self-care in any action or form helps us to avoid triggering health problems and benefits us by improving our physical and mental health through less stress, better self-esteem and overall wellbeing.

Always crack a smile, it’s cheap and easy. Stay happy. Happiness is a choice, our choice. Whatever the circumstances are, we can always choose to be a happy person. Choose it every day. Find the good in all things. Positive emotions can decrease stress hormones.

Life is loud, find some quiet. Stress is loud, the world is loud, the noise of life is exhausting. Finding some quiet time in a day is necessary for ourselves to remain balanced. Create at least a 15-minute quiet time for yourself a day, it doesn’t take too much to re-ground yourself. Meditation is a good proof that quieting your mind can help relieve stress and keep winter illness at bay.

Be close with nature. Go outside. Green space is associated with greater life satisfaction and less mental distress, it makes us feel more alive. Working out and taking your sweat session into nature also boosts mental health, heighten your sense of wellbeing and helps decrease tension, anger and depression.

Feed all your senses. Satisfy all the senses, not just taste. Find good music to boost your mood- it is a mood changer and an energy booster, reward yourself with good smells, a soothing lotion, a relaxing massage or a manicure and pedicure.

Get enough ZZZs. More sleep actually equates to more happiness, improved decision-making and overall improved health. Recharge your batteries, it helps to detox our brain. Sleep, and it will make you feel better.

We all have our inner dork. Just be you. There is nothing wrong with being yourself at times. Someone who doesn’t care what anyone thinks. Use your own personality and sense of humor to simply have fun wherever you go and not be a 100 percent serious person. Being too serious can be stressful, but taking things lighthearted and you will be more appreciated by the people around you. Go and dork out.

Add more color to your life. This can be applied not only to your clothing but also on the food you eat. When there’s more colors, it means variety. From fruits to vegetables, down to the attire you will wear every day. These colors will brighten up your day.

Veer away from your normal schedule. Take a trip or get away for a weekend. Just take some time to do something for yourself. It doesn’t have to be costly, but deviating from your routine every now and then can help you relax and rejuvenate. Look for something different, go sightseeing, go camping, meet new people or just wander. Everyone deserves a break anyway.

Connect and reconnect. Spend time with positive and loving people. They are the greatest source of empowerment. This may include not just your family members, but also friends and other members of the society or even people from support groups. Connecting to your community is a great way to feel emotionally strong. Soon, they will also become your support system.

Whatever you decide on doing, the key is always to find and make time for yourself. The more you put self-care into your daily life, the better you will be able to grow, enjoy, and thrive. Overall you will be able to live a better life. Remember that self-care can make a BIG difference in your life.
