How to Improve Your Digestive Health

Do you often get a bad case of indigestion? Instead of always just rushing over to your medicine cabinet for an over the counter antacid to curb the issue, try strengthening your digestive health. Your lifestyle and the type of foods your choose can affect the way your body digests. Here are a few healthy suggestions to incorporate into your daily life to improve your overall digestive health.

1. Eat More Fibers

A high-fiber diet that is rich in whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and legumes can help keep food moving through your digestive tract, making you less likely to get constipated. Also, a high fiber diet can help prevent & treat various digestive issues, as well as maintain a healthy weight. Sounds good to me!

2. Consume Insoluble & Soluble Fibers

It's good to make sure that you consume both types of fiber as each type helps your digestive health in different ways. Insoluble fiber, such as wheat bran, vegetables, and whole grains, can't be easily digested by the body and can help add bulk to our stools. Soluble fiber, such as oat bran, nuts, seeds, and legumes, draws in water and can help prevent stools from becoming too watery.

3. Limit Fatty Foods

Fatty foods in general are hard for the body to digest and can slow down the digestive process, making you more likely to get constipated. However, at the same time, it is important for our bodies to have some healthy fat, so eating a good balance of fatty foods and high-fiber foods is key to keeping your digestive system running smoothly.

4. Choose Lean Meats

Fatty cuts of meat can cause abnormal bowel movements and other digestive discomforts. So, although our bodies do need protein to maintain a healthy diet, it's good to be selective. Make sure to select lean cuts such as skinless poultry and do portion control. You want to fill your plate with more fiber-rich whole grains, vegetables, and fruits than meats.

5. Incorporate Probiotic & Prebiotic

Probiotic are healthy bacteria that help keep your healthy by supporting your immune system and helping your body digest food. It can also help enhance your body's ability to absorb nutrition and break down lactose. Prebiotic is essentially food for probiotic. They help support the healthy bacteria in the gut and can be found in fruits and vegetables. Another great way to incorporate probiotic and prebiotic is through supplements.
Our go-to supplement is FarmHaven's Digestive Enzymes as it not only includes 12 probiotic strains, it also contains 10 different enzymes that specifically help support the digestive system. In addition, it contains six soothing herbs like peppermint to help relieve digestive discomforts such as constipation, bloating, and gas.
